I design features for a large sporting goods e-commerce app.

Stakeholders wanted to increase average order value on the app.

The brand is kept anonymous since the feature is not released yet.

DESIGN PROBLEM

How do we increase AOV (average order value)

of our users without being too advertisey?

I decided to explore personalization through product recommendations - a must-have feature for e-commerce, as they can drive sales, increase conversion rate and average order value.

IDEATION & RESEARCH

Initial sketches included a traditional carousel with recommended products based on what the user is viewing.

I was really inspired by the Screen Time feature from Apple and the power this feature has given their consumers ownership over their own data. I wanted to explore how I can do that for an e-commerce app even if it’s recommended products.

The ideation session is focused during this stage of the design on what the user wants to see so we don’t worry about technological or business needs but exclusively on what we think the user wants.
